34 students of low-income group families in Kilinochchi on Friday (21) received 34 push bicycles and uniforms as gifts, thanks to the generosity of Ms Rani Bihar of Australia during a brief ceremony at Kilinochchi ‘Harmony Centre’.
The event, headed by Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Force Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), Ms Rani Bihar, the donor, General Officers Commanding in all Divisions, Brigade Commanders, parents and relatives of all recipients, saw distribution of those bicycles, each worth about Rs 10,000/= which in turn encourages those children to attend school well in time without awaiting for public or private transport.
After the ceremony, Major General Perera opened a new library near the ‘Gamini Kularathne’ statue at Elephant Pass after offer of a bouquet at the foot of the monument.
