BATTICALOA: TWO POLICE MEMBERS serving in the general area of KALUDAWELI in VALAICHCHENAI fell victim to an LTTE claymore mine explosion this morning around 7.25 a.m..
Having observed a ladies' pushbike suspiciously parked against a lamppost on KALUDAWELI Police Post road, the police team on route clearing has attempted to conduct a check on it when LTTE terrorists in hiding detonated the claymore mine fixed to the pushbike causing an explosion.
One Sergeant of the STF (Special Task Force) and one Police Constable attached to the KALUDAWELI Police Post were killed in the explosion.
One more civilian who was passing by the scene at that very point of time was also severely injured and admitted to ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of KALAWANCHIKUDY hospital for urgent treatment.
The KALAWANCHKUDY Police are conducting investigations.
