Tallest X'mas Tree in Kilinochchi Boosts Festive Spirits

Cementing bonds of goodwill, brotherhood, reconciliation and cultural diversity, hundreds of civilians in Kilinochchi, joined hands together with the troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) to mark Christmas in a record manner by Army troops erecting Asia’s tallest X’mas tree in the heart of Kilinochchi.

Troops at the SFHQ-KLN, as they did in the previous year too, put up the tallest and the largest X’mas tree of 116 feet high with 59,000 bulbs this year, making it one of the main attractions in the North.

Over 75 soldiers continuously working for 3 weeks, made the spectacular decoration a reality, using 249 GI pipes and 25 truckloads of Cypress tree branches, giving it more of a natural look.

The colossal tree will be on display until December 31 to coincide with Christmas and New Year festive season.

During this season, the SFHQ-KLN has in addition organized elaborate arrangements to give away scholarships to 689 Kilinochchi students, three important professional racing bicycles and conduct a mega musical show plus a carnival with the participation of the Agni musical band.

Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-KLN has taken the initiative with guidance given by the Commander of the Army.
