Tae Kwondo trainees receive their colours

The Korean Ambassador Mr. Lim Jae Hung and Mrs. Lim Sum Hee were the Chief Guests at the passing-out ceremony of the Tae Kwondo Course 2 trainees, held at the Sri Lanka Army Ordinance Corps Auditorium, Kankesanthurai, Jaffna on Wednesday (22).

Diplomat Mr Lime Jae Hung, Mrs Hee and Mr. Kim Yung Gwan, Representative of the Korean International Cooperation Agency after a tumultuous welcome given by the Commander, Major General S.D.Tennakoon, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna on their arrival, later on conducted them to the auditorium where the Tae Kwondo instructor presented an introductory account of this martial art and its history.

Proceedings followed the lighting of the traditional oil lamp and a two-minute silence, observed in memory of fallen heroes. A colourful exhibition of photos on the course presented by Officers and Other Ranks of the passing-out trainees and instructors of the National Tae Kwondo Pool attracted the guests.

Three Officers and ninety Other Ranks were given grades after their successful completion of the 12 week-long course.

During the previous first course, conducted a few months ago, one Lady Officer from the 5th Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps and 28 Other Ranks received their grades.

At the invitation of Brigadier K.S.Fernando, Chairman of the Army Taekwondo Committee and Colonel D.R.Wijesiri, the Korean Ambassador, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna, Sri Lanka National Coach and Army's Taekwondo 52 Division Commander, Brigadier N.A.Jayasooriya and Chief Instructor, Master Ki Su Lee distributed awards and prizes to those who followed the second Taekwondo course.

The 53 Division was adjudged the Champions of the Inter Division Tae Kwondo Competition-2004 whilst the SF HQ (J) and 51 Division became the runners-up.
