SVAB Online Scholarship Project Receives Tremendous Response

THE first ever online request for grant of scholarships to children of War Heroes made by the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) through the Sri Lanka Army website (www.army.lk) received a massive response within a matter of one week.

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya initiated the project in order to seek public assistance to obtain scholarships for children of War Hero families for their education online, providing a window of opportunity to interested organizations or individuals who would be willing to help Army families.

So far five philanthropists from Sri Lanka and abroad have come forward to sponsor several children of War Hero families in addition to numerous requests and inquiries that have been made in connection with the project.

Mr. K.M. Rohantha De Silva in Australia, Mr. Rajeev Munasingha and Mrs. Nimali Munasingha in Homagama, Sri Lanka, Mr. Nandaka H. Molagoda and Mrs. Anusha N. Elapata at Rosmead Place,Colombo Sri Lanka, Mr. Deshapriya Perera and Dilkushi Perera in Canada and Mrs. Somalatha Gunawardana and Wickrama Gunawardana in Australia are among the firsts to extend their assistance to the project offering their sponsorship for scholarships. 
 
The Seva Vanitha Army Branch, headed by Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya as one of the main welfare outfits of the Sri Lanka Army launched the scholarship project for the benefit of children of Ranaviru families.
