The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), one of the leading welfare branches that continues to throw its full weight behind the well-being of dependent, disable and other Army personnel and their family members, marked its 27th anniversary of founding on Wednesday (6) during a special ceremony that awarded financial grants, scholarships and artificial limbs.

Wednesday’s anniversary ceremonies that coincided with Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya’s completion of two years in office as SVAB President, saw offer of 76 scholarships to War Hero families, 23 commode sets, 29 financial grants for house construction/completion and medical needs and another grant for a foreign tournament.

The day was marked, giving pride of place to the requirements of those War Heroes and their families. The SVAB has been engaged in construction of new houses, partly-built houses, supply of sanitary accessories to new houses and assisting War Hero families on a wide range of requirements.

These financial grants are awarded under the first phase of the SVAB initiated welfare project – 2011, on a concept mooted by Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya and the project has by now provided assistance to several hundreds of Army personnel in the past six months.

On the same occasion, the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) with the sheer intention of contributing to the ongoing ‘Brave Hearts’ project, engaged in constructing wellness resorts for dependent War Heroes, donated a sum of Rs 6 million to Mrs Jayasuriya, SVAB President, the organization which raises funds for the construction.

A large gathering of SVAB members, senior Army officers and invitees attended the occasion.
