Support of Army Personnel for Introduction of New Agri Techniques in Wanni Assured

A forum of discussions to explore possibilities for introduction of scientific systems to the agricultural development among farmers in the Wanni region got underway at the University of Vavuniya on 19 December 2023, attended by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, Professor T. Jayasingham, Major General W.P.A.D.W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, Commander, Security Forces-Wanni, Experts on Agriculture, Researchers and a host of intellectuals, state officials and undergraduates following graduate courses in agriculture.

The discussions focused on use of traditional and modern technologies, renovation of abandoned irrigational tanks, water systems and water management, prevention and precautionary methods to minimize wild elephant threats in affected agriculture fields in the Vavuniya District and introduction of the online floating agriculture-based market and promotion of the same to the farmers, etc. The Commander, Security Forces -Wanni and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya also shared views on possible military assistance to the introduction of new innovatives and techniques.

Former Vice Chancellor of the Eastern University, Dr. J. Nimalan, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science, Professor (Ms.) A. Nanthakumar, (Senior Lecturer) Former Dean, Faculty of Applied Science, Dr. S. Wijemohan, Head of Department of Bio Science and the Senior Academic Staff and also the final year students of the University of Vavuniya.
