To Suit Future International Standards, The SLMA Should Be Upgraded - Commander

The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya currently in Diyatalawa undertook a tour at Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) premises on Monday (31) morning with the intention of exploring possibilities for further expanding and constructing the new SLMA wings to match with high international standards.

The SLMA, the premier seat of military training in Sri Lanka need to be completely renovated and refurbished since more and more foreign student officers are expected to seek admission to it in the future, particularly with the objective of learning more of our battlefield experiences and road to victory, the Commander maintained.

“The SLMA, identical to other foreign military academies elsewhere, would transform it to be the main centre for academic studies in the military while raising professional standards and other foreign requirements,” the Commander told the SLMA officers during his address to junior officers.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya during his interaction with the senior officers at SLMA extensively discussed means through which new components of studies and different disciplined could be introduced to the curricular, considering the ocean of experience the Sri Lanka Army has gained during the Wanni Humanitarian Operations.

Towards the end of his tour inside, the Commander went to see students under physical training at the premises. He also instructed how physical drill training should be brought on par with international standards.
