553 Infantry Brigade troops of the 55 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ– Jaffna (SFHQ-J) staged a mega-scale community project to distribute school accessories among 200 school students representing schools in Dharmapuram on Thursday (23 Nov) at the Dharmapuram No. 1 Government Tamil Mixed School premises.
Major General S.R.K Hettiarachchi RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, Commander, SF-J graced the occasion as the chief guest, together with Mrs R Ketheeswaran, District Secretary for Kilinochchi District attending as the Guest of Honour.
During the event, 200 students received school aid packs, each worth more than Rs. 3200.00 under the patronage of a group of well-wishers at the request of Mr T Pirunthakaran, Divisional Secretary of Kandawalai.
In addition, each student was given a coconut saplings by the Coconut Development Authority and a bag including fertilizer and other saplings by the Lions Club with the intention of promoting horticulture among the kids.
The event was initiated by Brigadier G.S.K Perera RSP, Commander, 553 Infantry Brigade under the guidance of Commander, SF-J and Major General R.K.N.C Jayawardena RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division and with the support of 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 14 Sri Lanka National Guard troops.
General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division, Commander, 553 Infantry Brigade, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and Government Officials also took part in the day’s event.
