Students to be Given Priority with New Fleet of Buses

Extensive discussions, initiated and coordinated by the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT), enabled Mullaittivu bus depot to get 10 new Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses for exclusive use of students and passengers in the area.

The Mullaittivu SLTB bus depot with its daily fleet of 13 buses provided transport for passengers in the area although one of the buses out of them too was out of service, causing inconvenience to Mullaittivu passengers.

A recent meeting, headed by District Secretary for Mullaittivu was held at the SFHQ-MLT with the participation of members of the Mullaittivu District Development Society and Major General Jagath Dias, Commander, SFHQ-MLT. During the meeting, it was pointed out that transport needs of the public have been badly affected with the skeletal service of 13 SLTB buses of the Mullaittivu depot.

In response to the requirement, Major General Jagath Dias, Commander, SFHQ-MLT initiated relevant talks with respective authorities in state agencies and finally succeeded in getting 10 new buses to the Mullaittivu depot.

During a simple ceremony on Tuesday (21), Major General Dias symbolically handed over them to the authorities at the SLTB Mullaittivu depot.

School services are to be given priority, using those new buses in agreement with the issues, raised by the District Development Society in the above said meeting.
