Student Officers at OCDC Interact with Commander at AHQ

A representative batch of undergraduates following the Unit Commanders’ Course (UCC) at Buttala Officer Career Development Centre (OCDC) this morning (6) as part of their training curriculum had the rare privilege of interacting with the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva and Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) at the Army Headquarters in order to acquire a better exposure and understanding on operational aspects of the country’s biggest organization.

Those 23 Student Officers during the interaction at the Commander’s office were interviewed by a panel of Senior Officers, headed by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva with the motive of assessing standards of their knowledge on commanding strategies and relevant aspects.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva afterwards in a brief talk to them on the ‘Role of Contemporary Battalion Commander’ educated them further on their responsibilities and importance of accumulation of knowledge during training sessions. After a while, those Student Officers had the opportunity to sit for a group photo with their Commander of the Army adding memories to the visit.

A few minutes later, those Student Officers were awarded the opportunity of interacting with several PSOs inclusive of Major General Nirmal Dharmaratne, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Jagath Gunawardena, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General Manoj Mudannayake, Director General Infantry, Major General Duminda Sirinaga, Quarter Master General, Major General Chula Abeynayake, Adjutant General, Major General Jayashantha Gamage, Military Secretary, Major General K. W Abrew, Director General Plans and Brigadier I. H. N. M. M Herath, Director Training at the Army Headquarters.
