With the objective of further promoting spirits of reconciliation, co-existence, ethnic harmony, security and respect for law and order, on the instructions of the General Officer Commanding of the 65 Division Major General Hemantha Bandara, troops of the 17 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Light Infantry under the supervision of the Commander 653 Brigade, organized a Civil-Military conference on Tuesday (11) at the 17 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Light Infantry camp premises in Alankulam.
The conference also explored possibilities of finding ways to raise and improve living standards of the people and receiving reasonable price for their harvests, etc. The General Officer Commanding 65 Division headed the conference. It was attended by the Commander 653 Brigade, Commanding Officer 17 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Divisional Secretary of Thunukkai, Medical Officer at Base hospital - Mallavi, Ayurveda medical officer at Ayurvedic medical center - Yogapuram, Chief Engineer of Irrigation Department - Vavunikulam, Chief Public Health inspector in Mallavi, Officer in charge of the Police station - Mallavi, Principals of Mallavi central college and Therankandal G.T.M School, Managers of all government/ private banks in Mallavi, all Grama Seva Officials in the area and several other relevant government authorities, including a couple of leading civilians in the area.
Discussions also focused on illegal activities and drug smuggling attempts, now on the increase in the area.
