Staff Sergeant J.A.M.P Jayakody Qualifies for 2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games

Sri Lanka’s para athlete, Staff Sergeant J.A.M.P Jayakody of the Special Force Regiment created history when he secured the first place in the PR1 Men’s Singles Sculls event at the Asia and Oceania Continental Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta worked off in Tokyo, Japan on Friday (7).

Staff Sergeant J.A.M.P Jayakody dominated this event and finished in the first place with a time of 11 minutes 04.23s. He also qualified for the 2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games, scheduled to be held in Tokyo.

This is the first time in the history that a Sri Lankan had qualified to compete in the rowing events at the Paralympic. Major General Sanjaya Wanasingh President of the Sri Lanka Army Rowing Committee supported the whole process.

The Sri Lankan contingent for this meet included Major A.M.M.M Alagiyawanne (Coach), Captain M. B. C. H. Liyanage (Assistant Coach), Staff Sergeant J.A.M.P Jayakody. Competitors from Sri Lanka, India, Uzbekistan and Thailand participated in the event.
