The Sri Pada pilgrimage season 2024/25 ended on Vesak Full Moon Poyaday (12th May), with the troops of the Gemunu Watch Regiment attending the concluding religious ceremonies.
The sacred procession (Sumana Saman Devi Perahara) was organized under the guidance of Major General W.B.J.K Wimalaratne RWP RSP, the Director General Infantry of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch. The ceremonial procession descended from Sri Pada Udamaluwa to Palabathdala Purana Vihara, respectfully escorting the sacred relics casket and the statue of God Saman. A parallel procession was also conducted via Erathna to Adavikanda Aramaya, symbolizing the enduring blessing of the pilgrimage.
Adding to the spiritual atmosphere, Dr. (Mrs) Dilrukshi Wimalaratne, president of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Gemunu Watch Regiment, also took part in the concluding religious ceremonies and the sacred procession, along with other members.
More than two hundred Army personnel from Gemunu Watch Regiment took part in the event, including Colonel K.M.N Dikkumbura RSP, the Center Commandant of the Gemunu Watch Regiment. Their disciplined conduct ensured a dignified and smooth closure to the Sri Pada pilgrimage season 2024/25.
This annual event of the Gemunu Watch Regiment reflects the deep commitment of the Sri Lanka Army to safeguarding the religious and cultural values of the country, and it stands as a proud symbol of faith, service and national unity.
