Sri Lanka's Defenders Football Club & Bhutan's Paro Football Club Preliminary Match End in Draw (3-3)

The visiting Bhutan’s Paro Football Club players, Vs Defenders Football Club in Sri Lanka vied with each other this evening (22) at Race Course ground in their preliminary football match round under the ‘AFC’ Cup.

Today's encounter culminated with 3-3 goals ending in a draw after a close tussle.

This match segment in the Asian Football Confederation Cup (AFC) was played under group E. They will again meet in another match in Bhutan on 29 January.

Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Chief of Staff graced as the Chief Guest.

Defenders Football Club was selected to this tournament, following achievements they recorded in the Dialog Champions League 2019.

All of these matches were being conducted in agreement with AFC rules and regulations with close cooperation of the Sri Lanka Football Federation.

4 referees from Iran were attending the match and a Jordanian will served as the match commissioner.

Sri Lanka’s Defenders FC was comprised of 18 players and 3 foreign players, 2 from Nigeria and 1 from Ghana.

Brigadier Upali Gunasekara, Chairman Defenders FC on the guidelines given by the Commander of the Army and Sri Lanka Football Federation officials is arranged all requirements for this match.

The AFC Cup is an annual continental club football competition, organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Under its current rules, the competition is played primarily between clubs from nations that did not receive direct qualifying slots in the top-tier in the AFC Champions League, based on the AFC Club Competitions’ Ranking.
