Sri Lankan Graduate, Brigadier Lanka Amarapala at Philippines’ NDC Shines with Academic Excellence

The National Defence College (NDC) of the Philippines for the first time in its hitory has awarded both Gold Medal for the Best Thesis and the Bronze Medal for Academic Excellence in the Masters’ Course (National Security Administration Regular Course-56 2020/2021) to the Sri Lankan Army Brigadier, Lanka Amarapala during the NDC’s graduation ceremony, held on Friday (17) at the NDC in the Philippines.

Brigadier Amarapala was awarded these recognized awards in the Course where some 83 other international undergraduates were reading for the NDC’s National Security Administration (MNSA) course for the Masters’. The Course, held at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City, Philippines was also followed by the Deputy Speaker of the Philippines’ Parliament.

The graduate programme at this NDC included a blend of Senior Officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force and civil sector members from the private and public sector, composed of Technical and Administrative Services, Legal sector applicants and entrepreneurs selected from many countries.

Brigadier Lanka Amarapala is the first ever Sri Lankan to secure this prestigious academic excellence bagging two medals (Gold & Bronze) in both categories in this degree course. The achievement of Brigadier Lanka Amarapala has brought prestige not only to the Corps of Engineers, his regiment and the Army, but also to the country at large.

Founded in 1963, the National Defence College Philippines is the Philippines government’s highest center for education, training and research on National Defence and Security. The one-year MNSA programme at the National Defence College of the Philippines is the only graduate-level degree programme in the Philippines that covers a broad spectrum of National Security Policy Formulation and Administration.
