Sri Lankan Expatriates Help War Hero Families

A SRI LANKAN domiciled in U.S.A. recently offered his generosity to supply a BARD Gastromy Button to an ailing son of a War Hero, attached to the 6th Gemunu Watch. This was in response to a humanitarian request made by President Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) Mrs. Anoma Fonseka.

Master Janith Piyumantha Samarasekara, the four-year old son of Colour Sergeant U.A.D.S. Jayantha of 6th Gemunu Watch, Sri Lanka Army due to some surgical complications on his windpipe and gullet has been recommended to use this medical equipment (BARD Gastromy Button) by medical experts on a periodic basis every six month. The equipment is pretty costly and Janith Piyumantha's family could not afford to buy it half-yearly, as advised by the doctors.

Mrs. Anoma Fonseka when she heard of the requirement, forwarded to her organization took the challenge of finding money and conducted a programme on a rotation basis among philanthropists, in order to get the equipment supplied to the infant without fail. Colombo Lady Ridgeway Hospital Consultant Dr Chandima Sooriyaarachchi has prescribed the use of the equipment for the child in view of the serious nature of the complication. Mr. Danuna Thilakarathna, residing in the U.S.A. offered his financial assistance to buy this equipment, worth about Rs 45,000/- this time following the request extended to him by the SVAB. Mrs. Fonseka acknowledged the donation and praised the thoughtfulness of the Sri Lankans living abroad.

Mrs. Asoka Thilakarathna and parents of the recipient were also present during the donation that took place at the SVAB auditorium on Thursday (17).
