Sri Lanka Signal Corps Celebrates 80th Anniversary on a Grand Scale

The Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) celebrated its 80th Anniversary amidst a series of military and religious events during 15 – 19 October 2023 under the guidance of Major General K.A.W.S Ratnayake ndu, Chief Signal Officer (CSO) of the Sri Lanka Army and SLSC Colonel Commandant.

At first, a customary monument parade got underway in memory of fallen SLSC War Heroes at the Regimental Centre War Heroes' Monument on Sunday (15) evening in the presence of 99 families of late War Heroes, Serving and retired Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of SLSC and members of SLSC - Seva Vanitha Branch.

Afterwards, the gathering saw the inauguration of 'Lieutenant Colonel D.V Brohier Motivation Center”, the first ever Museum and the library unit of the SLSC. Brigadier F.C.J De Silva (Rtd) USP, the most senior retired Signal Officer of SLSC unveiled the memorial plaque at the invitation of the CSO, who was also the brainchild of the project.

The two-storied museum is one of the major development projects, launched recently and provides the ideal platform to study the comprehensive historical glimpse of the Corps of Signals in terms of technological evolution, operational commitments and miscellaneous occasions worth remembering during the span of 80 years of transformation. The library has more than 2000 valuable books.

At the same time, Brigadier F.C.J De Silva (Rtd) USP, together with Major General K.R.P Rowel (Rtd) RWP VSV USP USACGSC, President of the Signal Association and Major General D.A.P.N Dematanpitiya (Rtd) ndu psc inaugurated the new office of the Signal Association, which was a much-needed requirement.

As dusk fell, troops and other invitees took part in an all-night ' Pirith' chanting ceremony that culminated with an almsgiving in the following day (16) morning.

The troops awarded a colourful ceremonial Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour to the Colonel Commandant on Thursday (19) after he was warmly welcomed by Brigadier A.K.D Adikari USP, Centre Commandant of the SLSC at the main entrance.

Afterwards, the CSO together with Senior Officers took part in a customary All-Rank lunch where the trophy for the best unit was presented to the 9 SLSC. Culminating the series of events, a dinner night was held with the participation of more than 200 Officers of SLSC. Serving and Retired Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and families of fallen War Heroes also participated in the series of events.
