Lt. Gen S.H. S Kottegoda WWV RWP RSP USP ndc, Commander of the Army was accorded a Guard of Honour on Friday (09) morning by his Regimental Centre of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry at Panagoda.
On arrival at the Panagoda Regimental Centre, he was received by Colonel of the Regiment, Major Gen. N. Mallawarachchi who conducted the visiting chief to inspect the Regimental colour parade and take the salute accorded on his behalf. Army Commander Lt. Gen. Kottegoda afterwards addressed all Ranks in the Regimental Centre and proceeded to visit the Warrant Officers' Mess where he was entertained to tea.
In his address, he noted the enormous delight and satisfaction he derived on being appointed as Commander. Paying a glittering tribute to his predecessors that were produced from his own Regiment, Lt Gen Kottegoda reminded the importance of his commitment to the nation and also its responsible nature at a time when peace is maintained. At the entrance to the Mess, the visiting military chief was welcome by the Regiment\'s caparisoned mascot Kandula who raised its trunk and greeted the guest who treated him to a tray of fruits.
A large gathering of Senior Officers including Major Gen N. Mallawarachchi, Major Gen G. B. W Jayasundera, Major Gen T. T. R de Silva and Brigadiers N. A Jayasuriya and R. M D. Rathnayake from Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment took part in the event.
