Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association Marks 80 Years of Service

The Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (SLESA) celebrated its 80th anniversary on 16 February at the Tamarind Banquet Hall in Delgoda.

The event, held under the patronage of Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) and Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army attended the event as a distinguished invitee. Deputy Minister of Defence, highlighted the association’s contributions since its establishment in 1944, representing over 45,000 members across 48 affiliated armed forces associations.

The Deputy Minister paid tribute to fallen and retired war heroes, reaffirming the government’s commitment to their welfare. Members were also briefed on the initiatives of the Senior Committee, appointed by the Ministry of Defence, to address concerns of retired service members.

During the event, nearly one million rupees was presented to the Gajaba Veterans Association as a bonus for their contributions to SLESA through the sale of poppy flowers. Additionally, distinguished members received the Life Membership Medal and Honourable Service Medal for their long-standing dedication.

SLESA Secretary Colonel Sujith Jasekara (Retd) and other distinguished guests participated in the event.
