Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen Association Hosts Annual Poppy Parade in Colombo

The Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen Association hosted its Annual Poppy Parade on 21 December 2024, commencing at Galle Face, Colombo, and concluding at the Cenotaph War Memorial in Viharamahadevi Park.

Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) A.K Siyambalapitiya psc Lsc, President of the Ex-Servicemen’s Association, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The parade, comprising 750 ex-servicemen from 44 Tri-Forces associations, marched solemnly to the Cenotaph War Memorial. Military bands from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the National Cadet Corps accompanied the procession, adding a ceremonial touch.

At the memorial, the President of the Ex-Servicemen’s Association, along with other distinguished guests, paid floral tributes to honour fallen soldiers. The event served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Sri Lanka’s armed forces, reaffirming the nation's profound respect and gratitude for its veterans. The Poppy Parade continues to stand as a significant symbol of remembrance and tribute to those who served.
