Demonstrating prompt action and dedication to public service, Sri Lanka Army troops played a critical role in the rescue and evacuation efforts following a devastating bus accident in the Gerandi Ella area of Ramboda on Sunday (11th May).
The passenger bus, which was traveling from Katharagama to Kurunegala, veered off the road and plunged down a steep precipice, resulting in multiple injuries among passengers on board.
Troops from the 3rd Regiment of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (3 SLSR), under the 642 Infantry Brigade of the 11 Infantry Division, Security Forces Headquarters – Central (SFHQ-Central), were among the first to arrive at the scene. They were joined by the troops from the 2nd Regiment of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (2 SLEME), who assisted the victims.
Soldiers quickly launched rescue operations, administering first aid to several injured personnel while helping to evacuate the victims to nearby medical facilities.
The wounded were transported to Kothmale, Nuwara Eliya, Gampola and Nawalapitiya hospitals with the support of local volunteers and emergency services.
The entire operation was closely supervised by Major N Ratnayake, Commanding Officer of 3 SLSR, along with the guidance of other respective commanders, ensuring an organized and efficient emergency response.
