Sri Lanka Army Team Co-winners of Silver Medal in PATS

The team of the Sri Lanka Army participating in the Pakistan Army Team Spirit (PATS) competition, held in mountainous terrain, close to Mangla in Pakistan during March 31 - April 4 succeeded in sharing the Silver Medal with the Pakistan’s Southern Command.

Teams from China, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan and Maldives, led by 16 officers vied in the PATS, aimed at testing Survival Skills and Physical Endurance spread over 72 hours in 23 field events.      

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, the founder of the Competition attended the closing ceremony and awarded medals and prizes to the winners.

Pakistan’s Mangla Corps team won the Gold Medal and became Champions in the tournament. Sri Lankan team and Pakistan’s Southern Command shared the Silver Medal.

Brigadier L.A.N.S Wanigasinghe, Commandant, Infantry Training Centre (ITC), Minneriya and Colonel D.M.U.G Bandara, Brigade Commander, Commando Regiment contributed to the event as observers.

Pakistan’s COAS speaking at the closing ceremony highlighted the importance of physical fitness and spirit of team work while serving an Army.

Major H.M.M.B Senevirathna, Team Manager, Captain N.M.A.B Nishshanka, Team Captain, Sergeant W.G Udaya Kumara, Team Vice Captain, Corporal H.M.G.K Herath, Lance Corporal G.C.I.N  Siriwardana, Lance Corporal W.M.R Abeyrathna, Lance Corporal L.J.D Wimalawardane , Lance Corporal G.A.P.R Bandara and Lance Corporal G.C.D. Nishadi took part in the competition and brought honour by sharing the Silver Medal.
