Sri Lanka Army to Support National Drive for Eradication of CKD in Rajarata

Sri Lanka Army with the noble intention of supporting the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in Sri Lanka, has pledged a sum of Rs 101 million towards its tasks plus the erection of the proposed transit resting complex for CKD patients in Anuradhapura.       

The Army’s pledge of assistance to the worthy cause of national concern was conveyed to HE the President Maithripala Sirisena by Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army during the national commemoration programme on World Kidney Day that kicked off this morning (10) at Medawachchiya, Anuradhapura.  

The day’s event with participation of a host of Ministers and different experts was headed by the Chief Guest, President Maithripala Sirisena, the prime mover behind the establishment of the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in Sri Lanka.

Thursday’s programme with special focus on school children in the region was themed ‘Kidney Disease and Children: Act Early to Prevent it’ and of educative nature with a series of awareness lectures, activities, book launches, supply of water filters, medical equipment, publications, commencement of preventive measures, recommendation of healing practices, etc.     

Eminent medical specialists on CKD, like Dr. Anwar Sadath at Anuradhapura General Hospital, Dr. Irosha Jayakody, Community Health Officer, Ministry of Indigenous Medicine and the popular singer Keerthi Pasqual delivered informative lectures on different aspects of the CKD and the importance of the national prevention campaign. 

Similar to the gesture of support given by the Army, Commanders of the Navy, Air Force and the Director General, Civil Security Department who were present at the event pledged financial assistance at the same time to steer the prevention campaign of the Presidential Task Force.

The Army is to collect the day’s salary from all members of the organization, beginning next month in order to facilitate the patronage of Rs 101 million to the national CDK fund, pledged by the Commander of the Army at Medawachchiya. 

Similarly, Army Engineers and other troops have volunteered to put up the proposed transit resting place for CKD patients, adjoining the Anuradhapura Hospital complex using their expertise and labour free of charge as a gesture of cooperation. Presidential Task Force was to provide raw materials for the construction.
