Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps Celebrates Its 75th Anniversary

The Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC) commemorated its 75th anniversary with a series of events held at the Regimental Headquarters in Dombagoda, Horana, from the 12 to the 14 of October 2024.

The celebrations began with an all-night Pirith chanting ceremony, invoking blessings on the Regiment honouring its fallen War Heroes.

In the morning of 13 October 2024, a Heel Dana (morning alms) was presented to the Venerable Maha Sangha who participated in the chanting, continuing the spiritual significance of the occasion.

Following a formal ceremony held at the war monument, a tea party was held at the Regimental Headquarters, providing families of fallen War Heroes a moment for reflection and fellowship.

Concurrently, an alms-giving programme took place, offering blessings for the Corps and remembering its fallen War Heroes.

In a special event held at the School of Ordnance conference hall, the SLAOC Seva Vanitha Branch, led by its President, Mrs. Iresha Fernando, presented a financial gifts to the families of fallen soldiers. The day’s events concluded with a lunch at the Corporals’ Club.

On 14 October 2024, the celebrations resumed with a traditional Guard Turnout, reflecting the discipline and pride of the SLAOC.

A commemorative stamp was also unveiled to mark the 75th anniversary, symbolizing the Corps’ rich history and achievements.

After the parade, Senior Officers, Officers, and other attendees gathered for a group photograph to immortalise the occasion.

This was followed by an All Ranks tea party, fostering camaraderie among the participants followed by a special All Ranks lunch at the School of Ordnance conference hall.

During the lunch, the Colonel Commandant presented commemorative coins as plaques to both Officers and Other Ranks, recognizing their contributions to the Corps and their participation.

Major General E.M.M. Fernando Hdmc Lsc AATO, Commander Logistics Command and Colonel Commandant of the SLAOC, together with Mrs. Iresha Fernando, President of the SLAOC Seva Vanitha Branch, graced the occasion.

Senior Officers, Officers,members of SLAOC Seva Vanitha Branch, Other Ranks, and families of fallen War Heroes attended the event.
