Sri Lanka Army Men's and Women’s Team Clinches Historic Victory at Defence Services Golf Tournament

The 13th Defence Services Golf Championship, organised by the Sri Lanka Army Golf Committee, took place from 10th to 11th February 2025 at the Golf Club, Nuwara Eliya, with the participation of over 100 golfers from the Tri-Forces.

The Sri Lanka Army Men’s Golf Team secured a remarkable victory, becoming champions in the Men’s category for the first time in the history of the Defence Services Games. They won the title with a margin of 26 points over the Sri Lanka Air Force Team.

In the Women’s category, the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Golf Team finished as runners-up, while the Sri Lanka Air Force Women’s Golf Team claimed the championship title. Corporal R.M.A.S Rathnayake of the Sri Lanka Army Golf Team was named the best female player of the tournament. Additionally, Lance Corporal K.W.V.S Wijegunarathne won the longest drive in the women’s division, and Private K.U.N Dilrukshi of the Army Golf Team secured the nearest-to-the-pin award.

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, who played a pivotal role in laying the foundation for this historic victory as the past Chairman of the Sri Lanka Army Golf Committee, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Chairman and the team for their remarkable achievement.

Major General A.H.L.G Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Commander, Security Forces (West) and the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Army Golf Committee, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks from the Tri-Forces participated in the event.
