Sri Lanka National Hockey Team, comprised of a group of 8 Sri Lanka Army Hockey players emerged as the runners-up at the finals in the World Hockey League 1st round, held in Singapore during April 06-18 and qualified for the forthcoming World Hockey League 2nd round.
In the final encounter, the Chinese Hockey team had a victory over its rivals, Sri Lanka National Hockey players with 4 -2 goals, although the Sri Lanka National Hockey players comfortably won in the semi-finals against Thailand with 5-0 during the same league.
The final match ended in a 3 - 3 draw and the referee applied the penalty tie breaker making Sri Lankan team to lose the final 4-2 in the penalty shootout.
However, as the finals progressed, the Sri Lanka Team, together with Army players beat Myanmar 7-0, Singapore 2-1, Kazakhstan 7-0 and Thailand 5-0 in a string.
Army Hockey players in the two-week long World Hockey League 1st round tournament showed their skills and helped Sri Lanka National Hockey team to have placed in the second place and win a Silver medal.
