The Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) Regiment celebrated its 67th anniversary with a series of events at its Regimental HQ, Rock House, Modara on Thursday (Dec 15), headed by Major General Swarna Bothota, Colonel Commandant of the SLAC and Military Secretary of the Sri Lanka Army as the Chief Guest.
The protagonist was warmly welcomed by the Armoured Brigade Commander, Brigadier Priyantha Kariyawasam, and the Centre Commandant Brigadier Piyal Wijesiriwardena after he was saluted with a colourful Guard Turnout at the entrance. The Colonel Commandant later reviewed the glamorous anniversary parade before paying tribute to the memory of fallen War Heroes.
During the parade, judged upon the performances made during the year, the trophies were awarded to the best SLAC regimental unit by the Colonel Commandant. The 4 Armoured Regiment emerged the best in all fields to receive the most outstanding regiment trophy for the year 2022.
Adding more significance to the day, the signboard of the road, named in honour of late General Deshamanya D.S Attygalle was unveiled by Major R.U.D.S Senanayake (Rtd), the most senior SLAC Officer in the Corps after the veteran's life-size bust was unveiled by General (Retd) Jagath Jayasuriya, former Commander of the Army on the invitation of the Colonel Commandant SLAC.
As part of the anniversary programme, the chairperson, SLAC-SVB, Dr Mrs Harshini Bothota, together with other members distributed 10 scholarhips and 10 book sets among most deserving SLAC families while the President of SLAC Veterans Association, Major General B.A Perera (Rtd) along with its members donated 06 scholarships to children of SLAC families.
Meanwhile, participating Senior Officers gave away gifts and trophies to the winners in different events and competitions. The launching of the Armoured Corps Journal 2022 took place at the same venue after a few minutes.
The spectacular event culminated with an All-Rank lunch in the premises and Mr Suraj Attygalle, the son of General Deshamanya Sepala Attygalle, Mrs Lali Kobbekaduwa, and many reputed retired members of the Cavalry family, Senior Officers/Officers, and Other Ranks participated in this anniversary project.
