Splendors of Vesak Reverberate in Jaffna

 

Elaborate Vesak arrangements, organized by the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) under the annual theme, ‘Yapa Patunai Daham Amavai’ got underway during May 23 - 26 in the heart of Jaffna city.

Held for the 4th consecutive year, arrangements comprised a mammoth Sil campaign, attended by all ranks, including the Jaffna Commander, display of multi-coloured Vesak lanterns, replicas of the heaven and the hell, Dansela (free meal centre), donation of cattle to poor families, distribution of essentials among low-income group families and various other illuminations.

The Vesak zone, supported by Navy, Air Force and Police serving the peninsula drew record crowds of sight-seers, including a large gathering of distinguished citizens and guests.

Several prominent Buddhist monks and lecturers during the mammoth Sil campaign delivered sermons and lectures on the importance of moral and spiritual development of one’s life and matters of domestic relation to all those who are serving the SFHQ-J.

Chief Priests of several Hindu temples, Major General G.A. Chandrasiri (Retd), Governor for Northern Province, Kayts Magistrate Mr R.S.A. Mahindaraja, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Security Forces Commander - Jaffna, District Secretaries, Divisional Secretaries, General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders, Area Commanders, Navy and Air Force senior officers, Senior Police Officers and state officials contributed to the success of all the programmes.
