Major General J.P.C Peiris RWP RSP ndc assumed office as the 14th Colonel of the Regiment in the Special Forces (SF) during a simple ceremony, amidst religious observances and military formalities on Thursday (07 Sep) at the SF Regimental Centre, Naula.
The Centre Commandant and all Staff Officers at the Regimental Centre warmly welcomed the incoming Senior Officer after he was greeted in a Guard Turnout at the entrance. Subsequently, he was invited to receive the tribute of the Guard of Honour at the parade square.
He marked the assumption symbolically by placing his signature in an official document, amidst the chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ by members of the Maha Sangha and prayers of the Catholic faith.
Furthermore, the new Colonel of the Regiment paid a floral tribute to the war heroes' monument at the premises and addressed All Ranks in the compound before adding memories to the day by planting a sapling in the compound.
Major General H.D.W.K.N Eriyagama RWP RSP, General Officer Commanding, 58 Infantry Division, Major General R.M.M Ranasinghe WWV RWP RSP, General Officer Commanding, 11 Infantry Division, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks took part in the day's event.
