Soldiers Learn More about Humanitarian Laws

ARMY OFFICERS and other ranks serving in Jaffna recently listened to a lecture delivered by an officer of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) on International Military Law and role of ICRC in conflict situations at the Transit Camp in Kankesanthure and 51 & 52 Divisions under the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J).

Commander SFHQ-J Major General G.A Chandrasiri requested the ICRC to have this lecture conducted for the benefit of Security Forces personnel in view of the importance of the subject as far as their scope of service is concerned.

Mr Channa Jayawardene, a senior member of the ICRC conducted the lecture after Lieutenant Colonel S.K.G.N.B Ehelamalpe representing Commander SFHQ-J made introductory remarks at the beginning. The lecture, designed to enlighten and re-remind the importance of adherence to those guidelines was attended by about 500 Army troops including officers.
