13 solar power units, worth about Rs 2 lakhs, donated by Rotarians of Japan and Colombo were distributed among families with school children, resident in Welankulam, Palamoddai, Pandikettukulam, Iranairuppaikulam, Parasankulam and Wilathikulam Gramaseva sectors in the 61 Division area.
Availability of those solar power units enables these students to continue their studies even during night time as they could provide electricity, sufficient to light up their houses.
The recent simple distribution ceremony at Mother Pannikkar Mahilankulam Vidyalayam was attended by representatives of Japanese and Colombo Rotary Clubs, 611 Brigade Commander and many others.
