Regimental Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) on Sunday (19) in a formal military ceremony bade farewell to one of its proud Senior Officers, retiring Major General Deepthi Jayathilaka after an exemplary service of more than 35 years in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army.
The farewell ceremony commenced with a customary Guard Turn Out honour upon his arrival at the entrance to the Regimental Centre before he was warmly received by Colonel Dulip Perera, Deputy Centre Commandant. A subsequent Guard of Honour to the outgoing Senior Major General of the SLSR followed afterwards. Brigadier Dammika Dissanayake, Centre Commandant, SLSR accompanied the day’s Chief Guest to the special dais to receive the salute after he reviewed it in line with military formalities.
Giving due recognition to the memory of all fallen War Heroes, he also placed a wreath and saluted their memory at the SLSR War Heroes’ monument. An All Rank tea arrangement at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess afterwards enabled him to refresh memories with all those who were present at the location.
The day’s itinerary included a farewell Guest Night, hosted in his honour the same evening (19), together with all Officers in the Regiment at the Officers’ Mess.
Major General Deepthi Jayathilake in his farewell speeches at the Parade Ground, Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess and also at the Officers’ Mess paid a glowing tribute to all SLSR personnel for the support they extended for fulfillment of his duties in the past 35 years.
Presentation of a special souvenir by Major General Jayantha Senevirathne, Colonel of the Regiment, SLSR and Commander, Security Forces - West to the outgoing Senior Officer brought the Officers’ Mess formalities to end.
