SLSC Erects its Own Officers' Mess & Inaugurates it with Army Chief

The Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) Regimental Centre at Panagoda this evening (26) vested its newly-erected “Cyllenes Cave,” the state-of-the art two-storied new Officers’ Mess building complex in SLSC Officers during a simple ceremony, headed by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest.

The formal inaugural warming of the complex, consists of a spacious, TV room, Guests’ reception section, Billiards room, Entertainment section, Pub and several other facilities, fulfills a longstanding requirement of the SLSC Officers for a proper facility that meets with required professional standards.

This project was launched on the directions of Major General Ashoka Peiris, Colonel Commandant of SLSC and Chief Signal Officer to be in line with the Commander's 'Army Way Forward Strategy 2020-2025', in which provision of all supportive facilities to Officers and Other Ranks has been highlighted for implementation.

The day’s simple warming ceremony got to a start with the arrival of the day’s Chief Guest who was honoured in a formal Drive Pass salute at the main entrance. Soon after Major General Ashoka Peris, Colonel Commandant SLSC, together with Major General Lalith Herath, deputy Commandant of Defence Services Command and Staff College and a few more Senior Officers warmly received General Shavendra Silva, he was directly ushered to the newly-erected “Cyllenes Cave,” premises.

At the new building, the day’s Chief Guest unveiled a plaque and warmed the new Mess Building at the auspicious minute by cutting a symbolic ribbon and vesting it in the SLSC Officers. Subsequently, the day’s Chief Guest, together with the SLSC Colonel Commandant had a close look at the spacious new complex after visiting each section.

General Shavendra Silva adding his thoughts to the occasion had this to say: " Facilities of this type are meant to sustain dignity of the profession as Officers of this esteemed organization. You all have to be leaders in the Signal trade by innovating new things all the time. Never give up as nothing is impossible and you should always groom your juniors well. Teach them and show the correct path. A facility of this nature will add dignity to you and your profession. You should also ensure you possess a clean service record during your career and let me congratulate all of you, " the Army Chief remarked.

The day’s inaugural ceremony culminated with Officers posing for memorable group photographs with the day’s Chief Guest as gestures of memory. The Commander’s inking of the Visitors’ Book with congratulatory compliments and the award of a memento to the Army Chief by the SLSC Colonel Commandant brought the day’s arrangements to end.

Major General Deepal Pussella, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters West, Major General Sugath Rathnayake, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area -East, Brigadier Sajith Liyanage, Director Information Technology, Brigadier Imal Assalarachchi, Commander, Signal Brigade, Brigadier Sudantha Fonseka, Center Commandant SLSC, Senior Officers, Officers and Other ranks participated in the day’s event.

The spacious new facility, equipped with necessary furniture and other amenities was constructed by SLSC troops themselves through the funds granted by the Sri Lanka Army for this project.
