SLSC 72nd Anniversary Marked with Elaborate Events

Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) marked its 72nd birth anniversary with a series of programmes during 17-21 October under the guidance of Major General Renuka Rowel, Colonel Commandant, SLSC at the Regimental Headquarters, SLSC in Panagoda.

The anniversary celebrations kicked off with a memorial ceremony, dedicated to honour fallen SLSC War Heroes on 17 October at the SLSC War Heroes Monument, Panagoda. Major General Renuka Rowel, together with serving and retired officers and next of kin of fallen War Heroes paid their respects to the fallen war heroes by placing floral wreaths.

Religious observances of the ceremony commenced on 17 October evening with an all-night Pirith Chanting, invoking blessings on serving SLSC officers and transferring merits on fallen officers and other ranks. The religious activities ended with an alms-giving ceremony for 72 monks in the following morning (18).

The anniversary ceremonies reached its climax on 19 October with a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, presented by SLSC troops saluting Major General Renuka Rowel.

Afterwards, an all rank lunch was held at the SLSC main auditorium on the same day where the most outstanding SLSC sportsmen & women and Battalions were felicitated and appreciated.

The anniversary celebrations   culminated with two separate mess nights for SLSC officers and Warrant Officers & Sergeants on 19 and 21 October at the Officers’ Mess and Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess.

Major General Rowel made a brief speech during the mess night and highlighted the importance of entering into new technological revolution as the communication sphere is fast changing.
