SLNG ‘Colours Night’ Held on Grand Scale

A glittering Colours Night to recognize sports skills of Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) Army personnel was held at the North Western Provincial Council auditorium at Kurunegala during 29-30 June.

The SLNG, having produced a fine assortment of sports personalities to the Army in the past, took pride in appreciating the services of both retired and serving sportsmen during the same colourful event.

Colonel of the Regiment, SLNG, Major General Piyal Wickramarathne as the Chief Guest, graced the momentous event, replete with military traditions and entertainment. The Chief Guest on arrival at the auditorium was welcomed by the SLNG Centre Commandant and conducted him to the main hall in the company of SLNG senior officers.

Several scintillating and eye-catching spectacles of cultural, musical and historic themes, meticulously choreographed by Army cultural troupes, held the audiences spellbound as the day’s agenda unfolded one by one while awarding Regimental Colours to 295 SLNG officers and Other ranks (both serving and retired during 1991 to 2016) for their excellence in various sports at different levels, i.e. Army, Defence Services, National and International, representing the country.

The grand presentation of Colours reached its apex as the Chief Guest entered the stage after he was cordially invited to make the final segment of the presentation of Colours to the 17 SLNG personnel who have excelled exceptionally well in sports at national and international level, representing the country in the past few years.

Former Colonels of the Regiment, SLNG council members, senior Officers, Other Rankers, recipients and family members took part in the colours awarding ceremony.

Major General Rohana Bandara, Director General Army Sports, Brigadier H.G.I Vidyananda, Commandant, Army Logistic School, Brigadier W.S Ariyasinghe, Centre Commandant, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment participated as invitees to the event.

Former colonels of the Regiment of the SLNG, Major General G.V.D.U.A Perera (Retd), Major General A.M.B Amunugama (Retd), Major General A.C Obeysekara (Retd), Major General W.D.L.P Wickramasinghe (Retd) and Brigadier L.K.B Lal Weerakoon (Retd) attended the event together with the former Centre commandants of the SLNG, Brigadier, J.V Siriwardana and Brigadier N. Bertrum and Brigadier G.M.L Chandrasiri, Council Member of the SLNG.
