SLNG, Army Karate champions 2004

Inter Regiment Karate Tournament, another grueling event of the army sports calendar, took place on 16 and 17 of June at the Panagoda Army Physical Education School. Contestants from thirteen Regiments including Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps vied for the trophy exhibiting their high mental and physical strength in the field of sports as they did in the battlefield during decades long war fought in north and east.

The tournament, which was first organized in 1975, was revived in 1997 after a vacuum period of twenty two years. In this year's competition, Lance Corporal S.W.T. Chaminda of Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) was awarded the best male player whilst Corporal S.W.T. Samarasinghe of Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps (SLAWC) was awarded the best female player.

Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) scoring 87 points won the Army Karate championship of 2004 and SLCMP which scored 44 was adjudged the runner up. Chief Guest of the final contest, Major General Lal Fernando, Llogisticc Commander, distributed awards to the winners. Brigadier K.A.N.S.K.A.Fernando, Chairman Sri Lanka Army Karate VCom, Chairman Defence Services Karate Association, Officers and Other Ranks from contesting regiments witnessed the event.
