SLMA Inaugurates Indo–Lanka Friendship Reading Section

The Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) marked a historic milestone on 06 June 2025 with the inauguration of the Indo–Lanka Friendship Reading Section, an initiative aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and promoting academic and cultural exchange between Sri Lanka and India.

Mr. Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh, Defence Secretary of India, graced the event as the Chief Guest.

The day’s proceedings commenced with the arrival of Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army. He was accorded a ceremonial Guard Turnout and subsequently paid floral tribute at the War Heroes’ Memorial.

Following this, the Commander of the Army was accorded a Guard of Honour and symbolically planted a sapling within the SLMA premises. Thereafter, the official unveiling of the newly constructed horse statue took place. The Army Chief also exchanged mementos with the Commandant of SLMA, signed the official visitors’ book, and participated in a brief commemorative ceremony.

The second session of the event featured the formal opening of the Indo–Lanka Friendship Reading Section, following a group photograph with all participants. The ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp by the distinguished guests, followed by a guided tour of the newly established facility, which showcases resources aimed at enhancing the academic pursuits of Officer Cadets.

To mark the occasion, dignitaries exchanged mementos and engaged in cordial interactions with the Officer Cadets. The proceedings concluded with another sapling planting ceremony and a tour of the academy premises.
