SLLI’s Inter Battalion Firing & Chess Championships Held on Grand Scale

The awarding ceremony of the Inter Battalion Firing Championship and Chess Championship of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) got under way on Friday (15) at SLLI Regimental Headquarters.

Major General Ruwan Kulathunga, Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI and Commandant, Defence Services Command and Staff College as the Chief Guest graced the awarding ceremony.

In the Inter Battalion Firing Championship, 20 SLLI group emerged Champions and received the trophy from the Chief Guest. The runner-up trophy went to 11 SLLI firing experts. Similarly, trophy for the Championship in Inter Battalion Chess Tournament was won by 2 (V) SLLI while its runner-up was 10 SLLI Chess players.

Major General J.R Ampemohotti, Brigadier I.G.R.G Bogodawatte, Brigadier A.A.S.P Thilakaratne and a few more Senior Officers joined distribution of shields, colours and certificates to the achievers in both firing and Chess tournaments.

Both tournaments were held during the months of January and February at Diyathalawa Firing Range and Marksmanship and Sniper Training School (MSTS) at Diyathalawa.

170 shooters from 17 Battalions of the SLLI attended the tournament while 94 chess players representing 16 Battalions vied for supremacy during both tournaments. Sports Shoes | AIR MAX PLUS
