Major General Wasantha Abrew, one of the experienced infantry officers assumed duties as the 13th Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) on Monday (30) amid religious blessings and best wishes at the SLLI Regimental HQ at Panagoda .
In keeping with military formalities, the day’s protagonist, Major General Wasantha Abrew on arrival at the entrance to the RHQ SLLI was received by Colonel Ravindra Jayasinghe, Deputy Centre Commandant before he was invited to receive the Guard Turnout salute. After a while, the SLLI Centre Commandant, Brigadier Anura Dissanayake welcomed the incoming Senior Officer. He was then invited to review the Guard of Honour, held in his honour at the parade ground where elegantly-clad soldiers were awaiting the arrival of the day’s new Colonel of the Regiment.
The next item on the agenda symbolized the commemoration of thousands of SLLI War Heroes who laid their lives for the sake of the motherland. The solemn ceremony saw unmatched sacrifices of SLLI War Heroes were honoured placing floral wreaths by the new Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Wasantha Abrew.
Afterwards, Major General Wasantha Abrew in his new office signed a formal document and symbolized the assumption of his new office amidst chanting of 'Seth Pirith' by members of the Maha Sangha in the presence of senior officers.
