The Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regimental HQ expanding its welfare facilities further equipped the HQ complex with several new accommodation facilities made available to the troops on a conceptual notion of Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu, Chief of Staff of the Army and Colonel of the Regiment of SLLI.
A simple ceremony saw the newly-built Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) chalet, new administrative complex and an accommodation facility in the Regiment HQ opened during a simple ceremony on Saturday (July 08).
At first, the day’s Chief Guest warmed the renovated and refurbished new accommodation facility for Other Ranks. This two-storied accommodation complex was built in 1950 and needed a complete renovation at the time the Colonel of the Regiment SLLI, suggested its overall renovation under several phases. Manpower and technical expertise for the project was provided by the SLLI regimental HQ troops on the directions of Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu.
A few minutes later, the SLLI Regimental HQ warmed its three-storied administrative building complex fulfilling a long-felt need in the HQ. The complex consists of all new facilities including a conference hall. The Chief Guest unveiled a plaque and warmed the new building after a cutting a ribbon.
After a while, the newly-erected Regimental Sergeant Majors’ chalet was formally vested and symbolically handed over to Warrant Officer I G.V Kumara, Regimental Sergeant Major of the SLLI Regimental Centre. The chalet was built with the support of Corps of Engineer Service Regiment troops and SLLI troops.
As the second segment of the agenda, the Chief of Staff drove to Boossa SLLI Training Centre and declared the newly-constructed reception hall opened. The reception hall facilitates conduct of weddings and other social gatherings. This project which accommodates 90 people was initiated in the year 2015.
All the above-mentioned welfare projects were initiated as conceptual notions of Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu, Colonel M.P.S.P Kulasekara WWV RWP RSP, SLLI Centre Commandant and SLLI Officers.
Major General S.R.K Hettiarachchi RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, Commander Security Forces- Jaffna, Major General G.M.N Perera RWP RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding of 22 Infantry Division, Regimental Staff Officers, Commanding Officers of SLLI Battalions, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with those events.
