The Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) marked its 143rd anniversary on 23 October 2024, with a series of commemorative events.
Major General Y.A.B.M Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander of Security Forces (Central) and Colonel of the Regiment of SLLI, was welcomed in a Guard Turnout at the main entrance. The celebrations included a formal parade and award ceremony at the Regimental Drill Ground, group photographs with all ranks, a troop address, and an All-Rank lunch.
Afterwards, a tribute ceremony for fallen heroes was held at the “Abimanmudunatha” War Heroes' Monument at the Regimental Headquarters. Then an all-night pirith chanting ceremony and Heel Dana for the Maha Sangha were also held at the Regimental Headquarters.
Past SLLI Commanders of the Army, former Colonels of the Regiment, Senior Officers, Officers and relatives of deceased War Heroes were present at the anniversary celebrations.
