To uplift soldiers' living standards and make them comfortable both at physical and mental levels, two more SLLI troops-constructed houses were vested in two homeless soldiers of the 1 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment and the 6 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment (SLLI) on Saturday (24) during separate ceremonies in Katupitiya and Mahawela as one more segment of the SLLI's ongoing house construction projects for War Heroes.
Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu, Chief of Staff and Colonel of the Regiment SLLI who initiated this valuable project as the Chief Guest joined warming ceremonies of both new houses.
Accordingly, 1 SLLI Regiment troops providing their manpower and technical skills erected a new house for a homeless soldier of the 1 SLLI living in Katupitiya, Kurunegala. He is married and blessed with two kids.
Similarly, the 6 SLLI Regiment as per directions of the Colonel of the Regiment constructed a new house for another deserving SLLI soldier in Mahawela, Pihibuwa who is married and blessed with one daughter. Regimental HQ funds, Battalion funds, SLLI Seva Vanitha funds and donors' funds provided necessary resources for purchase of raw materials.
Respective Commanding Officers of both battalions closely supervised the construction work of those houses.
Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu, Chief of Staff and Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment who pioneered this special project for the best interests of SLLI soldiers several months ago attended the warming ceremonies separately and symbolically handed keys and a few household items as gifts to the new houses and warmed them with family members of the recipients amid religious blessings.
Brigade Commander, 583 Brigade, Deputy Center Commandant of SLLI Regimental Headquarters, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the house-warming ceremonies at Katupitiya and Mahawela.
