A group of 19 Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCO’s) of the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) recently completed a six-month-long Industrial Management Diploma Course for the Artificer qualification introduced and initiated by Major General J.A.R.S.K Jayasekara USP psc, Director General Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (DG EME), in collaboration with the National Vocational Training Authority (NVTA) on Tuesday (June 20) at the Sri Lanka-Korea National Vocational Training Institute in Orugodawatta.
On the guidelines given by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, the Artificer Course was developed to offer local training and reduce the reliance on foreign sources providing the qualification, “Artificer” widely practised in Commonwealth countries with the intention of recognizing military personnel as experts in their trades as well as industrial management. Further, it is expected to generate savings and provide overseas employment opportunities for graduates.
Major General J.A.R.S.K Jayasekara USP psc, together with Air Vice Marshal Prasanna Ranasinghe (Retd), Chairman of the NVTA graced the occasion as the chief guest and gave away certificates to the qualifiers in the course. Moreover, during the closing remarks, DG EME stressed the significance of the Artificer Course which has been a noteworthy milestone for the Sri Lanka Army and a testament to its commitment to providing high-quality vocational training.
Over the course of six months, the dedicated participants underwent valuable training and acquired a diverse range of skills in their respective trades. The comprehensive curriculum covered a wide array of technical aspects, ensuring that the graduates possess the expertise required to excel in their fields.
