The Sri Lanka Army Inter Regiment Cycling Tournament, organized by the Army Cycling Committee, was held on July 24-25, 2024, at the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) Base Workshop in Udawalawe with the participation of Major General S.P.A.I.M.B. Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of SLEME, as the chief guest.
The tournament featured 140 cyclists from 11 regiments, competing in various categories, including individual timing trials, standard and racing cycle races, a women’s standard cycle race, and an over-50 age group race.
SLEME emerged as the overall champion with 118 points, while the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment secured the runner-up position with 28 points. Notable individual performances included Craftman A.D.S. Perera of SLEME, who won the Racing Bicycle event, Lance Corporal A.D. Marapperuma of SLEME, who took first place in the standard cycle event, and Lance Corporal W.R.M. Fernando of the Army Women’s Corps, who won the standard cycle event.
