Troops of the Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) on account of the Vesak week organized a donation project for 26 elderly mothers and fathers residing at the Thusitha Elders' Home at Mattegoda on Tuesday (2).
Essential food varieties, sanitary items, medicines and clothes were awarded to those elderly civilians during the project as a community-oriented service.
Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu proposed this project and it was made possible due to the financial assistance provided by the philanthropist, Mr. Prasad Lokubalasooriya.
The scheduled programme began after entertaining the residents to a tea table, full of traditional sweetmeats.
SLE Calypso band provided musical rhythms and enabled the residents to enjoy the occasion. Several Officers were present during the entire programme.
