Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) bade farewell to outgoing Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and the Colonel Commandant of SLE, Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, on 21 May 2024, in a formal ceremony held at the Regimental Centre of SLE.
The Senior Officer was warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant, Colonel F Joseph USP, upon his arrival. Subsequently, the outgoing Colonel Commandant was greeted in a Guard Turnout at the main entrance. Afterwards, he paid a floral tribute to the memory of fallen War Heroes at the Regimental Monument.
Later on, he was accorded a colourful Guard of Honour at the parade square and he posed for a few group photographs with the Officers. The Senior Officer interacted with the troops in a tea at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess and during the All Ranks lunch at the Other Ranks’ Mess.
In the evening, a farewell dinner was hosted in the honour of the retiring Senior Officer with the participation of Sapper Officers and their spouses. Major General A.H.L.G Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Director General Financial Management delivered the farewell note, expressing deep gratitude for the retiring Senior Officer's exemplary service. In response, Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu extended his compliment to Officers and Other Ranks for the unwavering support throughout his military career.
Mementos were presented in appreciating the retiring Senior Officer’s service rendered to the SLE. Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of SLE took part in those formalities.
