The Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) Regimental HQ at Panagoda recently hosted a colourful farewell parade for its outgoing SLE Colonel Commandant, Major General Chandana Wijayasundara who was also the former Commander of the Security Forces - Jaffna. It got underway on Saturday (Dec 03) at the Regimental Headquarters ground at Panagoda.
A colourful Guard Turnout and a formal Guard of Honour plus the offer of a floral tribute to the memory of fallen SLE War Heroes underwent in the begining. Later on, the day's Chief Guest was invited to open and warm the recently-built Regimental Sergeant Majors' holiday chalet and the renovated P.D Ramanayaka Memorial Soccer and Rugby ground at the SLE Regimental HQ by cutting ribbons and unveiling plaques. A fellow-lunch treat culminated the first-half of the day.
The newly-appointed SLE Colonel Commandant Major General M. K Jayawardena during the formal dinner held in his honour afterwards presented a special memento to Major General Chandana Wijayasundara and symbolized his contribution to the growth of the SLE.
Before the farewell day, the outgoing Colonel Commandant paid his last visit to the Engineers Division where Major General Lanka Amarapala, General Officer Commanding, Engineer Division welcomed him and conducted formalities.
