In order to impart knowledge on ‘Crime Investigations’ to the Other Ranks (OR) of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP), the Special Investigation Unit of the SLCMP following guidelines given by Major General A.C.A De Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc, the Provost Marshal of the Army and Colonel Commandant SLCMP launched the third phase of an educative workshop during 11 - 19 September 2023 at the Ministry of Mass Media lecture hall.
The event was closely supervised by Colonel M.M.M.P Mahesh Kumara, the Commanding Officer of the Special Investigation Unit. More than 35 Other Ranks, currently engaged in SLCMP investigative duties attended this one week-long workshop that could shed light on different perspectives of the investigation procedures.
The comprehensive course curriculum encompassed an array of essential subjects, including the Army Audit Procedure & Detection of Bribery and Corruption, Surveillance Techniques, Statement Analysis, Identification and Detection of Narcotics, Insights from a Judicial Medical Officer on Postmortem procedures, Tender Procedures, Drug Dealing and Weapon Smuggling tactics as elucidated by the CID, Crafting Charge Sheets from Investigation Reports, Forensic Explosion and Fire Investigations, Handling Firearm-related Investigations and Forensic Ballistics, the intricacies of DNA Serology and Digital Forensic Science, culminating with an in-depth exploration of the Examination of Questioned Documents.
The culmination of the workshop occurred on Tuesday (19 September), in the presence of Major General A.C.A. De Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc as the Chief Guest.
The ceremony included the distribution of certificates to the dedicated participants who had invested their time and efforts to expand their investigative knowledge.
The event was attended by Brigadier H.M.S.I Senarath, the Centre Commandant, SLCMP HQ, and several high-ranking officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the Special Investigation Unit.
