SLAVF’s New Main Entrance Opened

The Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) HQ, now about to move into its newly-rebuilt construction complex at the same previous location at Kosgama, opened its new main entrance gate this morning (21) during a simple ceremony.

Major General Jagath Kodituwakku, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army at the invitation of Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commandant, SLAVF as the Chief Guest for the occasion amid religious blessings unveiled a plaque, cut a ribbon and opened the main gate, symbolizing the auspicious entry into the premises after absence of several years.

A gathering of Senior Officers, including Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, Major General Indu Samarakoon, Commander, Headquarters Logistics Command, Major General Mahinda Jayawardena, Chief Field Engineer and SLAVF Officers attended the inaugural occasion.

A brief procession with a bevy of dancers conducted the day’s Chief Guest and invitees into the assembly area after the inauguration before the Chief of Staff extended greetings and best wishes to the SLAVF for its architectural skill and efforts in the sphere of reconstruction.

The entrance was made an eye-catching attraction of SLAVF identity, thanks to the meticulous designing and economical use of resources by SLAVF troops including their engineers and 10 Corps of Engineer Services (CES) troops.

After the brief ceremony, the Chief of Staff had a look at the completely-reconstructed SLAVF HQ administration complex, set to see the light of the day in a few days and discussed several matters pertaining to its use and future schedules.

Prior to his departure, he let a note of compliments and appreciation in the SLAVF Visitors’ Book.

The SLAVF HQ premises several years ago was reduced to ashes due to accidental explosion of an ammunition dump, compelling the HQ to temporarily move into the nearby Logistic Command HQ complex. However, efforts of the Army troops in the past two years have now enabled the reconstruction of the old SLAVF HQ which will shortly resume its operations.
